Christmas Market – students to realize entrepreneurial dreams

Winter will be bleak without Christmas Market. Agree or not? Luckily, we got a unique one on campus. The Business Incubation Center organized the RICH Entrepreneurship Competition at the Red Brick Plaza on 21 and 22 Dec. Twenty student teams were shortlisted to showcase their innovative products in the stalls, from fusion snacks, brownies, gingerbread, and Pâte de fruits, to handmade soap, jewelry, flower bouquet, and lovely Christmas gifts. The competition encouraged students to develop their entrepreneurship skills and experience making, sourcing, and selling products. It also exposed students' creativity to a wider audience via a festive market, which proved popular and successful.

One of the spotlights fell on the team Manyvines. It came from the USR team of Industrial Design converting abandoned grapevines into a variety of biochar products: soap, incense, necklace, collar buckle, bag, chopsticks, cups, etc. The team won first place in the 2nd Taiwan Yunus Social Business Innovation Awards and successfully started a company.

CYUT has been launching the RICH Entrepreneurship Program since 2015, providing students with the training required for starting a business and arranging mentors to support and guide them. The program also includes an entrepreneurship fund of NT$10 million per year for students to apply. Manyvines was one of the projects the program supported. It helps students realize their entrepreneurial dreams.
