CYUT-STARLUX collaborates to nurture aviation talents

Target on cultivating high-quality aviation professionals, Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT) and STARLUX Airlines have solidified their commitment to industry-academia collaboration through a recently signed memorandum of understanding. The agreement was endorsed by CYUT's President, Cheng Tao-ming, and STARLUX Airlines' Chief Human Resources Officer, Calvin Wu. Both parties will collaborate through internship programs, educational visits, technology transfer, professional lectures, industry training, and industry-academia exchanges in the future.

The CYUT Department of Aeronautical Engineering is associated with an Aviation Maintenance Training Center, implementing a comprehensive training program that integrates a license and a bachelor's degree, allowing students to attain the coveted Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) B1.1 Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License before graduation. This program enhances graduates' competitiveness and streamlines the time and cost for the industry to train qualified license holders. Notably, this year's graduates have secured employment successfully, and the Department anticipates graduating 150 professionals within the next two years. Recognizing the intense competition for skilled aviation professionals, STARLUX Airlines proactively partners with CYUT, conducting job interviews and offering employment to qualified students prior to graduation.

President Cheng Tao-ming expressed, "STARLUX Airlines is a rising star in the aviation industry, continuously expanding its fleet and distinguishing itself as the only Taiwanese company to provide a first-class cabin on A350-900 aircraft. STARLUX Airlines has strategically targeted middle to high-end customers that value experience and quality, successfully forging a unique brand image. We are honored to work with STARLUX Airlines in bringing a dynamic workforce to the global aviation industry." CYUT has invested NTD 700 million in establishing the College of Aviation to nurture aircraft maintenance, aviation services, and air transport management professionals, collaborating closely with airlines and airport operators to ensure students meet industry trends.

Calvin Wu, Chief Human Resources Officer of STARLUX Airlines, commended CYUT's ambition to become the first institute in Taiwan to train aviation professionals in maintenance, piloting, cabin and ground service, and air transport management, along with a complete set of aviation-specific equipment and robust training programs. "Students from CYUT Aviation College excel in national skills competitions, showcasing technical prowess and a commitment to ethical development. These qualities align with the talent requirements of STARLUX Airlines,” he said. “We look forward to jointly nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals with CYUT."
