CYUT and SFI partner to cultivate green finance talent

CYUT and the Securities and Futures Institute (SFI) have joined forces to develop future green finance leaders. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aligns with the Financial Supervisory Commission's Green Finance Action Plan 3.0 and aims to boost graduates' financial expertise and employability in this growing field.

Ms. Chang Li-chen, SFI General Manager, emphasized the critical role skilled professionals play in achieving corporate sustainability goals, especially as net-zero emissions become increasingly important for market entry. To bridge this skills gap, SFI offers a comprehensive "Sustainable Finance Certification" program with "Basic" and "Advanced" levels. The program allows flexible learning, with the basic certification achievable through self-study, exams, or training courses, progressing to "Advanced" upon completion of further training. Launched in April, the exam assesses essential knowledge in four major areas: sustainability fundamentals, sustainable information disclosure, risk management & governance for sustainability, and all aspects of sustainable finance (investment, financing, insurance).  It encompasses knowledge for both financial and non-financial industries regarding sustainable information disclosure. SFI also provides helpful reference materials to aid in exam preparation.

President Cheng Tao-ming expressed his honor at securing the MOU, highlighting it as a testament to CYUT's longstanding commitment to sustainability. This commitment is reflected in their unique position as the only private technological university in Taiwan ranked in the QS World University Sustainability Rankings. The MOU signifies a shared goal: to cultivate talent aligned with the financial industry's sustainability needs. By equipping students with a structured training program for the certification, the initiative will enhance their expertise and marketability in the green finance job market.

Sustainable finance professionals are key to achieving financial and corporate sustainability goals. The Sustainable Finance Certification stands out from other finance certifications by incorporating additional components like sustainable information disclosure, risk management, greenhouse gas management, and sustainable investment and financing.  Professor Fu Chung-jen, Dean of College of Management, noted the growing trend of integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors into financial decision-making. Moving forward, the College of Management's departments (Finance, Business Administration, Insurance and Finance Management, and Accounting) will collaborate further with SFI to strengthen students' ESG abilities and cultivate green and sustainable finance talent.
