CYUT’s Social Work Department Takes the Stage

To showcase the achievements of vocational education in Taichung City, the Education Bureau hosted the "Vocational Education Show" event, with CYUT’s Department of Social Work participating for the first time. Led by Department Chair Professor May-Ling Chen and Professor Chun-Fan Lai, 12 students from the Department engaged in interactive activities designed to introduce high school and vocational students to the field of social work, encouraging their involvement in social services and fulfilling the university’s social responsibility.
Professor Chen emphasized that as social issues become more complex and welfare needs more diverse, the demand for social work professionals is growing. However, many high school students are unfamiliar with the profession. The event aimed to help them better understand social work and how they could contribute to society. Professor Lai highlighted the importance of group dynamics and self-exploration in social work, with three challenge activities that allowed high school students to collaborate, problem-solve, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. In recent years, the Department has established strong collaborations with government agencies and non-profit organizations and signed agreements with international universities to offer students overseas internship opportunities.
