Nigerian PhD student makes miraculous recovery with CYUT’s support

Ibrahim Yahaya Garta Mi, a Nigerian PhD student at CYUT’s Department of Information Management, was rushed to the hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage and falling into a coma. With emergency surgery and unwavering support from CYUT faculty and students, he made a remarkable recovery over two months.

Mr. Relicx Tsempet Shiolban, Trade Commissioner of the Nigeria Trade Office in Taipei, visited Ibrahim to commend Dali Jen-Ai Hospital’s care and express gratitude to CYUT for their support.

At the time of the incident, Ibrahim’s Glasgow Coma Scale score was only 3. Fortunately, faculty members quickly noticed his condition and secured urgent medical assistance. Despite his hospitalization coinciding with Taiwan’s Lunar New Year holiday, Dean Tzu-Chuen Lu, Department Director Shao-Kuo Tai, Dr. Rung-Ching Chen, Dr. Li-hua Li, and many classmates continued visiting and supporting him.

CYUT President Tao-Ming Cheng praised the faculty and students for their dedication, emphasizing how their care and encouragement helped Ibrahim overcome this life-threatening ordeal. His recovery stands as a testament to resilience, hope, and the strength of the CYUT community.
