The Power of Change: CYUT Enters THE 2025 Impact Rankings

CYUT has once again been recognized in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which evaluates global universities based on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CYUT remains the only private technological university in Taiwan to be ranked for seven consecutive years, reflecting the university’s deep commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
President Tao-Ming Cheng stressed that CYUT has demonstrated outstanding performance in several SDG areas. The university ranked in the top 101–200 globally for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) due to its long-term efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture and improving food security across 14 counties in Taiwan. It also ranked in the 201–300 range for SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) through initiatives such as financial aid programs that have supported nearly 40,000 underprivileged students, as well as digital mentoring projects that bridge the rural-urban education gap.
The university’s social responsibility teams have made impactful contributions both locally and internationally. In Taiwan, they have helped revitalize agricultural communities by introducing eco-friendly farming techniques and supporting food processing industries. Globally, CYUT’s international volunteers have served in Tanzania, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Mongolia, building libraries, digital learning centers, and clean water systems while supporting orphaned children. These efforts have touched over 27,000 individuals and have earned recognition without borders.
Sustainability is embedded throughout CYUT’s campus operations and academic programs. The university has committed to reducing energy consumption by 2% annually and aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. More than 4,000 courses related to sustainability have been offered, equipping students with the knowledge and tools to drive change. In addition to its strong showing in THE’s rankings, CYUT has remained in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings' top 100 for eight consecutive years and is the only private technological university in Taiwan listed in the 2025 QS Sustainability Rankings.
Looking forward, CYUT will continue to advance sustainability through initiatives such as agricultural waste reuse, food and farming education, and river conservation programs. By engaging students, faculty, and the broader community, CYUT aims to inspire collective action and serve as a force for change in building a more sustainable and inclusive future.
