Tripartite collaboration in nurturing Film & TV talent

To nurture top talent in Taiwan’s film and television industry, the Ministry of Culture’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development and the Taichung City Government Information Bureau sponsored the 2025 Film Arts Workshop, co-hosted by Central Motion Picture Corporation and CYUT’s Department of Communication Arts. The event showcased important achievements in both industry growth and talent development.
Now in its third year, this workshop is the only program in Taiwan combining a professional soundstage with comprehensive, hands-on training in film art design and set decoration. The curriculum integrates practical work, industry-academia collaboration, and professional on-site training. More than one hundred students from 17 local and international universities applied. Ultimately, 24 students were selected to participate in an intensive 17-day hands-on course held at the Central Taiwan Film Studios. This year marked the first inclusion of industry professionals, promoting knowledge sharing and mentorship. Addionally, university professors from various arts and design fields joined as guest auditors, gaining direct insight into current film production techniques and teaching trends.
Deputy Director Yu Chen of the Taichung City Information Bureau highlighted that Taichung has steadily invested in this program, shaping the city into a hub for film talent. Of the 53 students trained in the first two years, 15 have already launched careers in film production. CYUT Vice President Sung-Chi Hsu praised the partnership and expressed commitment to continued collaboration for cultivating future film industry leaders.
This year’s workshop featured the acclaimed TV series Heaven on the 4th floor as the creative foundation. Students engaged in script analysis, art direction, carpentry management, set construction, and finishing touches—all within a real soundstage. Led by Mei-Ching Huang, winner of the Golden Horse Award for Best Art Direction, and Hsin-Fa Chen, recipient of the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year award, the training emphasized both professional skills and workplace readiness, boosting Taiwan’s film art talent on the international stage.
