Making Sustainability Interactive: CYUT Library Projects Shine at ALA Annual Conference

CYUT’s Poding Memorial Library, a longtime advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was once again recognized internationally in 2025. Two projects, "Practice the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through Real-World Puzzle Challenges at CYUT Library" and "Sustainable Reading Zone: Decoding the SDGs at CYUT Library," were chosen for presentation at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Philadelphia, an international event in the library sector.

One poster highlighted how the library uses escape room–style puzzle challenges to integrate SDG themes such as No Poverty, Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Partnerships for the Goals into engaging activities. Incorporating tools like call numbers, Morse code, Chinese input methods, image recognition, and AI voice technology, these challenges inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and learning.

The second poster showcased the library’s SDGs Sustainable Reading Zone, which uses thematic book displays, concept introductions, and international case studies to deepen public understanding of sustainability and transform the library into a hub for global issue engagement.

Hsien-Wen Tseng, Chief Officer of Library and Information, mentioned that these initiatives have strengthened interlibrary cooperation, earned the Outstanding Service Award from the Interlibrary Cooperation Association, and positioned the library as a leader in sustainability education.
CYUT’s consistent success in major rankings, including eight years in UI GreenMetric Top 100, six years in THE Impact Rankings, and two years in QS Sustainability has highlighted its achievements.

Looking ahead, CYUT’s Poding Memorial Library will keep promoting “Knowledge Empowerment × Sustainable Co-Prosperity” through innovation, digital tools, and partnerships to support sustainability in higher education.
