Empowering New Immigrant Women: CYUT Partners with Taichung City to Host Multicultural Celebration

The Taichung City Government, in partnership with CYUT’s Department of Social Work, hosted “Taichung, Ni Hao! Apa Kabar” at Taichung Park to celebrate diversity and empower new immigrant women. Nearly 40 booths featured international cuisine, cultural experiences, and community services, while performances marked Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day with traditional dance, a rice-cone (Nasi-Tumpeng) cutting ceremony, and folk music.
Deputy Director-General Zih-Ruei Lin of the Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau emphasized that multicultural inclusion is part of everyday life in Taichung, home to more than 65,000 marriage immigrants (84% women) and 102,000 migrant workers. The city has established 8 empowerment centers and 34 community hubs offering language classes, legal aid, counseling, and job support.
Professor Fei-Hung Chen of CYUT’s Department of Social Work added that the Taichung Women’s Bazaar and related training programs help women build skills in business, marketing, and design. At the event, new immigrant women presented Indonesian cookies, Vietnamese noodles, pineapple cakes, turmeric rice, and indigo-dyed crafts — all warmly received by the public.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Immigration Agency, and Taichung City Government also attended in support of building an inclusive, welcoming city.
