Leading with Vision: President Tao-Ming Cheng Receives Taiwan’s Highest Educational Honor

“Education is not only a responsibility but also a mission. Whenever faced with challenges, I always give my very best.” These were the heartfelt words of President Tao-Ming Cheng of Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT), who was awarded the 2025 National Excellent Teacher Award by the Ministry of Education. He is the only university president to receive this honor in 2025, underscoring nearly three decades of remarkable contributions to education.

Since assuming office in 2015, President Cheng has guided CYUT to international prominence, securing rankings in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, the QS World University Rankings 2026, and the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings 2025–2026. His leadership has positioned CYUT as a leader among Taiwan’s technological institutions.

Under his direction, CYUT has achieved global recognition in sustainability and social impact, ranking among the UI GreenMetric World University Top 100 for eight consecutive years and the THE Impact Rankings for seven consecutive years. In 2025, CYUT also earned the CommonWealth Magazine USR University Citizen Award, ranking first nationwide among private technological universities.

President Cheng’s visionary leadership also led to a NT$700 million investment in the College of Aviation, establishing Taiwan’s first comprehensive aviation education hub and making CYUT a top choice for nurturing global aviation talent.

“I share this honor with all my colleagues and partners in education,” Cheng said. “Together, we will continue to provide students with a world-class learning environment and ensure that education remains a force for transforming lives.”
