CYUT Ranks in Global Top 50 Green Universities
CYUT ranked 49th worldwide in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, placing it among the global top 50 green universities out of 1,745 institutions from 105 countries. CYUT has remained in the global top 100 for nine consecutive years, ranks first among private technological universities in Taiwan, and achieved a perfect score to rank No. 1 worldwide in the “Water” category.
President Tao-Ming Cheng highlighted that CYUT has fully integrated the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its development strategy, advancing sustainability through a green campus, energy conservation, carbon reduction, and environmental education. These efforts have earned CYUT consistent recognition in major global rankings, including QS Sustainability Rankings, THE Impact, and UI GreenMetric. As Chair of the Green University Union of Taiwan, President Cheng also emphasized collaboration with 76 member universities to accelerate progress toward net-zero sustainability.
CYUT’s leadership in water sustainability is driven by a “zero growth in water use” policy under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, with average daily water use of only 20.57 liters per person, far below Taiwan’s national average. The university actively reuses reclaimed water, rainwater, air-conditioning condensate, and treated wastewater.
In energy and waste management, CYUT established Taiwan’s first on-campus Carbon Recycling Center, converting agricultural waste into biochar. The university also implemented a smart energy management system covering over 95% of campus electricity use. Since 2008, CYUT has achieved over 39% energy savings and nearly 50% carbon reduction. With 94.43% green coverage, certified environmental education facilities, and extensive sustainability programs, CYUT continues to demonstrate strong leadership in campus sustainability and social responsibility.
