CYUT Promotes Healthy Aging with Culinary Innovation

To support healthy aging and improve nutrition for older adults, the University Social Responsibility (USR) team of CYUT partnered with Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology (CTUST) to host the 2025 Senior-Friendly Culinary Competition. The event brought together students, community organizations, farmers’ associations, and food service professionals, highlighting cross-generational creativity and practical solutions for senior nutrition.

In the Professional Division, the Wuma Restaurant Group won first place for dishes designed with soft textures, balanced nutrition, and appealing presentation. In the General Division, teams from CTUST took first place with dishes using whole grains and locally sourced ingredients. Other awards went to teams from CYUT, China Medical University, and Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science.

CYUT faculty member Prof. Kuan-Chuan Tao explained that the competition is part of the university’s long-term USR initiative focused on improving senior diets and promoting active, healthy aging. Over the past three months, participants from academia, industry, and local communities worked together to design meals that are nutritious, easy to eat, and senior-friendly.

The competition also aligned with national efforts to promote texture-modified diets for older adults, addressing chewing difficulties and preventing age-related muscle loss. By combining professional expertise, student creativity, and community engagement, CYUT continues to advance age-friendly food design and fulfill its social responsibility in support of a healthier, more inclusive aging society.
