CYUT Pioneers a New Path for USR–ESG Collaboration

To strengthen the integration of University Social Responsibility (USR) with corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies, the Ministry of Education’s USR Promotion Center held a regional workshop on sustainability and ESG collaboration at CYUT on April 10. The event brought together USR project teams from across Taiwan, along with industry representatives and local practitioners, to share best practices, engage in cross-sector dialogue, and participate in hands-on workshops. As USR enters its fourth phase, the focus is shifting toward aligning academic initiatives with corporate ESG priorities to build sustainable, competitive models that benefit universities, industry, and local communities alike.

CYUT highlighted its long-term USR project in Yunlin as a leading example of this approach. Centered on agricultural safety and rural sustainability, the project integrates safe farming practices, reliable agricultural products, stable farmer livelihoods, and resilient rural communities. Through interdisciplinary collaboration in applied chemistry, environmental engineering, information technology, and design, the initiative has developed a comprehensive system for agricultural monitoring, pest management, product processing, and brand development. By strengthening partnerships with industry and leveraging external resources, the project demonstrates a scalable and replicable model for USR-driven sustainable development.

The workshop also featured ESG benchmark case presentations and a panel discussion on USR–ESG collaboration, with participants from universities, industry, and local communities sharing practical insights from diverse perspectives. A hands-on session further guided USR teams in identifying key project strengths and translating them into actionable ESG solutions that can be adopted by industry partners. By fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation, the event reinforced CYUT’s role as a hub for sustainable practice and international cooperation, while advancing the impact and real-world application of USR initiatives.
