CYUT Tops Central Taiwan in Sustainability, Wins 2026 USR Citizenship Award

CYUT has been recognized with the 2026 CommonWealth University Social Responsibility (USR) Citizenship Award, one of Taiwan’s highest honors in sustainability. The award ceremony, attended by senior government officials, recognized universities for excellence in governance, social engagement, environmental sustainability, and institutional performance. CYUT ranked first among private technological universities in central Taiwan, excelling across 31 indicators in four key dimensions and demonstrating the strong commitment of its faculty and students to advancing sustainable development.

CYUT President Tao-Ming Cheng emphasized that the university’s sustainability efforts have received consistent international recognition, including nine consecutive years in the top 100 of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, as well as inclusion in global university impact and sustainability rankings. CYUT has also received Special Recognition for Outstanding Social Engagement and Sustainability at the Triple E Awards, making it the only university in Taiwan to earn this distinction. Looking ahead, the university will continue to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthen sustainable campus governance, promote net-zero transformation, and expand the impact of its USR initiatives through collaboration with communities, industry, and public and private sector partners.

Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Sung-Chi Hsu highlighted the breadth of CYUT’s USR initiatives, which now span 35 sites across 14 counties and cities, particularly in key agricultural regions. These projects focus on youth empowerment, regional revitalization, and net-zero carbon reduction, delivering tangible outcomes in sustainability practice. Among them, the USR project in Yunlin received special recognition in the University Impact Project category for integrating technology, circular practices, and collaborative learning to support safe agriculture, reduce pesticide reliance, and strengthen local agricultural development, further demonstrating CYUT’s leadership in advancing sustainability through action.
