Learning Has No Age Limit: CYUT Celebrates Senior University and Third Age University Graduates
Learning has no age limit. For many older adults, returning to campus is not only a chance to gain new knowledge, but also a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with themselves, meet new friends, and embrace a new stage of life. CYUT’s Department of Golden-Ager Industry Management held the “2025–2026 Senior University and Third Age University Completion Ceremony,” where 52 learners joyfully put on graduation gowns and took commemorative photos. With the heartfelt performance of the Chaoyang Sunshine Senior Choir, the ceremony became a touching celebration of courage, growth, and lifelong learning.
As Taiwan enters a super-aged society, lifelong learning plays an increasingly important role in helping older adults stay healthy, confident, and socially connected. Professor Jui-Ying Hung, Chair of the Department of Golden-Ager Industry Management and Director of the Senior University and Third Age University programs, shared that the Third Age University is more than a collection of courses. It is a welcoming and age-friendly learning community where middle-aged and older adults can continue to grow, discover new interests, and find fresh purpose after retirement. Seeing learners regain their enthusiasm for learning and life is one of the most meaningful outcomes of the program.
This year, 32 Senior University learners, with an average age of 70, and 20 Third Age University learners, with an average age of 60, completed their learning journey together. Through courses in health promotion, future living and life planning, smart technology, social participation, and international perspectives, they brought their rich life experiences into the classroom and inspired one another through sharing and exchange. Some learners also joined a short-term study visit to Japan, where they explored innovative elder care, inclusive design, community development, and smart technology. Looking ahead, CYUT will continue to support learners of all generations through the Ministry of Education’s upcoming “30+ University” initiative, helping people at different stages of life keep learning, stay connected, and create a fuller, more meaningful life.
