CYUT Showcases Industry-Academia Collaboration in Plastic-Free 3D Printing Materials
In response to global trends in plastic reduction, net-zero transition, and green manufacturing, CYUT’s Department of Industrial Design held its Product Design Exhibition alongside the Industry-Academia Collaboration Achievement Exhibition with Eason Quantum Fiber Co., Ltd. The exhibition featured projects in smart agriculture, product prototyping, model making, and eco-friendly material applications, highlighting CYUT’s long-term commitment to sustainable design education, local engagement, and industry collaboration.
A key highlight was the joint presentation of plastic-free 3D printing materials developed through collaboration between CYUT and Eason Quantum Fiber. The department’s USR team, led by Chair Yann-Long Lee, received a gold medal at the 19th International Salon of Inventions and New Technologies "New Time" for its work on plastic-free agricultural mulch film. The team also received a gold medal at the IIIC International Innovation and Invention Competition for its research and development of innovative plastic-Free 3D printing materials, demonstrating strong capabilities in sustainable materials, circular design, and practical environmental applications.
Eason Wang, Chairman of Eason Quantum Fiber, praised CYUT faculty and students for their creativity, technical skills, and dedication to sustainable product development. Vincent Lai, Deputy General Manager of Eason Quantum Fiber, added that sustainable materials require close cooperation between industry technology and design innovation. CYUT’s Department of Industrial Design will continue working with industry partners and local communities to turn sustainable materials into real-world applications, helping students develop practical problem-solving skills while creating design solutions that support industrial transformation and environmental sustainability.
