Geographic Information System (GIS) digital maps do more than identify streets and landmarks—they can also preserve a city’s everyday memories. Wuchuan Community College, operated by CYUT on behalf of the Taichung City Government, recently partnered with FU SPACE to present the exhibition Through My Eyes: The Light and Shadows of My City. The exhibition highlighted the sixth Community GIS Project, Watersheds and Rivers: The Final Chapter of Liuchuan, featuring students’ field observations, photography, paintings, writing, and digital map annotations. By documenting familiar streets, rivers, markets, and historic buildings, participants helped preserve local stories and encouraged the public to see Taichung’s old city from a new perspective.

For more than two decades, Wuchuan Community College has promoted cultural preservation, river conservation, environmental awareness, and old city revitalization. Its Community GIS program turns local memories, oral histories, and printed records into digital resources that can be preserved and shared across generations. The program also helps students become active “City Observers” with stronger public awareness and a deeper connection to their community. The next session is expected to begin in October 2026 and will welcome anyone interested in Taichung’s history, ecology, local writing, or visual documentation.
