The Taiwan Environmental Sustainable Development Foundation (TESD) and CYUT co-hosted the 2026 Environmental Sustainability Development Forum Series to bring together government officials, industry leaders, and academic experts to discuss Taiwan’s environmental policies and net-zero transition. Representatives from central and local environmental agencies, universities, and major companies gathered at CYUT to exchange ideas on carbon pricing, the circular economy, high-value resource recovery, and greenhouse gas accounting. The strong turnout reflected a shared commitment to advancing both environmental sustainability and industrial transformation.

Keynote speakers from the Resource Circulation Administration and the Climate Change Administration discussed how circular economy policies and carbon pricing can support Taiwan’s path to net zero. Industry representatives also examined the role of recycling and waste-management industries under the carbon fee system, along with the practical challenges of greenhouse gas inventories and third-party verification. The discussions highlighted the need for a fair and workable transition framework that protects the environment while maintaining industrial competitiveness.

Officials emphasized that Taiwan must move beyond traditional end-of-pipe waste treatment and focus more on green design, waste prevention, longer product life cycles, high-quality recycled materials, and full life-cycle management. They also noted that carbon pricing can encourage companies to upgrade equipment, improve production processes, increase energy efficiency, use more renewable energy, and strengthen supply-chain management. CYUT will continue to support Taiwan’s sustainability and net-zero goals through education, research, technology development, and closer collaboration with government and industry.
