Use Genuine Textbooks: Avoid Unauthorized Copying or Uploading
- Respect Intellectual Property
Always use legitimate textbooks, including used books. Do not scan, copy, download, or upload books or course materials without authorization.
- Taiwan’s Copyright Act
Under Taiwan’s Copyright Act, copyright owners hold the exclusive rights to reproduce and publicly transmit their works. Scanning, photocopying, and downloading are forms of reproduction, while uploading constitutes public transmission. Unless the use qualifies as fair use under the Copyright Act, permission or authorization must be obtained from the copyright owner before using copyrighted material. Photocopying an entire book or a substantial portion of it, repeatedly scanning or copying large amounts of material, or downloading, reproducing, sharing, uploading, or publicly distributing theses, e-books, instructor resources, presentation slides, test banks, solution manuals, or other copyrighted files without authorization may exceed the scope of fair use and could result in copyright infringement and legal liability.
