From Farm to Festival: CYUT USR Creates a New Mid-Autumn Treat

CYUT’s USR project, “Mountain Harvest: Urban-Rural Partnership Project,” teamed up with the Xinshe District Farmers’ Association to create a new Mid-Autumn Festival pastry using local ingredients. The team developed a mung bean pastry with mushroom and braised pork, combining Xinshe-grown mushrooms with locally sourced pork and traditional mung bean filling. The collaboration gives a fresh twist to a classic holiday treat while promoting local agriculture and creating new value for regional farm products.

Faculty and students from CYUT’s Department of Leisure Services Management tested and refined the recipe to achieve the right balance of mushroom, braised pork, mung bean paste, and flaky pastry. Beyond developing a new local specialty, the project also brings together food and agriculture education, cultural tradition, rural revitalization, and sustainability. In the future, the USR team will continue working with local partners to develop value-added products and create more opportunities for Taichung’s mountain communities.
