CYUT Recognized for Excellence in Traffic Safety Education
CYUT has received an Excellence Award from Taiwan's Ministry of Education for its outstanding efforts in traffic safety education during the 2025–2026 academic year. The university was recognized for its commitment to promoting road safety awareness, public transportation, vehicle safety, and pedestrian-friendly environments. Associate Dean of Student Affairs Hsien-Ho Tang accepted the award on behalf of CYUT and shared CYUT's approach to traffic safety education with representatives from other institutions. President Tao-Ming Cheng emphasized that traffic safety is a shared responsibility and that the university continues to work with government agencies and community partners to create a safer, smarter, and more sustainable commuting environment.
To encourage students to use public transportation, CYUT became one of the first universities to adopt Taichung City's Citizen Exclusive Ride Code, allowing eligible students to register and link their codes directly to their smartphones. The service also provides discounted bus fares, including free rides for the first 10 kilometers and a maximum fare of NT$10 for longer trips. CYUT also offers free motorcycle safety inspections on campus, with professionals checking brakes, tires, and lights. In addition, the university regularly organizes traffic safety workshops and awareness campaigns for freshmen, students living on campus, and international students. These activities cover traffic regulations, accident prevention, and safe riding practices, helping students develop safer commuting habits.
Dean of Student Affairs Jiun-Jian Liaw emphasized that traffic safety education goes beyond preventing accidents. It also helps students develop a sense of responsibility, protect themselves, and respect others on the road. CYUT will continue strengthening its traffic safety programs, reviewing accident and traffic violation data, identifying high-risk areas near campus, and exploring ways to improve road safety. With these ongoing efforts, the university aims to provide a safer, more convenient, and more welcoming transportation environment for the campus community.
