CYUT's Fiona Lee Brings 16 Years of National Day Protocol Expertise into the Classroom

From international airline cabins to major national ceremonies, professional hospitality demands attention to detail, cultural awareness, and respect for others. Fiona Lee, Assistant Professor in the Department of Aviation Technology at CYUT, has served as a protocol training instructor for Taiwan's National Day celebrations for 16 consecutive years. A former flight attendant with Singapore Airlines and China Airlines, Lee brings extensive experience in international etiquette, cabin service, and cross-cultural communication to her training. She emphasizes that protocol work goes beyond welcoming and guiding guests. It requires discipline, sound judgment, and careful preparation, from professional appearance and gestures to guest coordination and handling unexpected situations. Drawing on her aviation background, Lee incorporates airline service standards and practical experience into her training, helping protocol staff prepare for major national events.

Alex Lu, Chair of the Department of Aviation Technology, emphasized that international etiquette, communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively under pressure are essential in the aviation industry. Lee's experience with international airlines and national ceremonies reflects the department's commitment to integrating industry expertise into classroom education. In addition to her National Day responsibilities, she has trained protocol staff for the inauguration of Taiwan's 16th president and related state banquet events. By bringing firsthand experience from these high-profile events into the classroom, Lee helps students better understand professional service standards, cross-cultural communication, and the importance of adaptability in demanding situations. Her contributions demonstrate how industry experience can enrich aviation education and prepare students for careers in the global aviation industry.
