Nantun Senior Academy Donates Handmade Bibs to Children with Disabilities
Students from the advanced patchwork class at Nantun Senior Academy in Taichung have turned their sewing skills into a meaningful act of community service by donating 100 handmade bibs to the Taichung Infant Care Center, operated by the Xiangshang Social Welfare Foundation. The senior learners carefully selected fabrics, cut materials, and sewed each bib to support children with disabilities. Their efforts demonstrate how skills developed through lifelong learning can make a positive difference in the community.
The Taichung Infant Care Center provides around-the-clock care for abandoned infants, early intervention services for children with developmental delays, residential care for individuals with severe disabilities, and emergency shelter for children in need of protection. The center currently serves more than 100 residents, many of whom have severe disabilities and require frequent bib changes. Staff expressed their appreciation for the thoughtful donation, noting that the handmade bibs meet an important daily care need while reflecting the community's compassion and support.
Shu-Chu Liao, CYUT’s Chief Officer of Continuing Education, emphasized that the donation reflects the university's commitment to lifelong learning, community engagement, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CYUT has operated Nantun Senior Academy for 15 years, offering educational programs that support personal growth and social participation among older adults. Through initiatives like this, CYUT continues to promote active aging, strengthen community connections, and encourage senior learners to apply their skills in ways that benefit others.
