CYUT Honored for Excellence in Green Procurement
CYUT has been recognized by the Taichung City Government's Environmental Protection Bureau for its outstanding green procurement practices, becoming the only technological university to receive the award. In 2025, CYUT spent nearly NT$24 million on environmentally friendly products, including energy-efficient air conditioning systems, eco-labeled computer workstations, certified green building materials, and sustainably sourced paper. Hwa-Nan Chang, Special Assistant to the President and Secretary-General of the Green University Union of Taiwan, accepted the award on behalf of CYUT.
President Tao-Ming Cheng emphasized that green procurement is an important part of the university's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By prioritizing products that conserve water, save energy, and reduce environmental impact, CYUT promotes responsible consumption across campus. Its sustainability efforts have earned international recognition, including three consecutive years in the QS Sustainability Rankings, eight years in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, and ten years among the world's top 100 universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
Su-Chuan Liu, Assistant Vice President and Dean of General Affairs, noted that CYUT integrates sustainability into campus operations, education, and research, supported by more than 4,000 sustainability-related courses. The university has also received several national honors, including the National Sustainable Development Award and National Environmental Education Award. CYUT will continue promoting green procurement, strengthening industry collaboration, and advancing toward its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.
